Eligibility
  1. Welcome to the UCAS Teacher Training Apply registration page. Please read the following carefully before continuing.

UCAS processes applications received by the UCAS Teacher Training Apply scheme for ITET training programmes delivered at universities, colleges, and schools (SCITTs, School Direct (tuition fee) and School Direct (salaried)) in England and Wales. The training programmes all lead to one or more of these awards:

    • Postgraduate or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
    • Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
    • Recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Teaching Qualification (TQ)

All training providers are seeking applications from those who are personally and academically suitable for the teaching profession. You must hold, or expect to obtain by the time of entry, certain minimum academic qualifications. Each training provider is responsible for its own recruitment and admissions policy, and some providers require more than these minimum requirements. It is up to the training provider to decide whether a qualification meets its criteria. It is, therefore, important that you check your chosen training providers' entry requirements to confirm that your qualifications are appropriate for their training programmes for which you intend to apply.

    Minimum academic entry requirements

All applicants for postgraduate teacher training should hold, on entry, a degree awarded by a United Kingdom university or other institution empowered to make such awards, or a recognised equivalent qualification.

    For training programmes in England

All applicants must also, on entry to that training programme, have obtained a grade C or 4, or above, in GCSE English and mathematics, equivalent qualifications or the knowledge of these subjects required to obtain this level of qualification. Training providers cannot waive this requirement.

    For training programmes in Wales

All applicants must also, on entry to that training programme, have obtained a grade B or 5, or above, in GCSE English and mathematics, equivalent qualifications or the knowledge of these subjects required to obtain this level of qualification. Training providers cannot waive this requirement.

For training programmes in England and Wales

Additionally, all applicants to primary and middle years teacher training programmes must also have a GCSE at grade C or 4, or higher, in a science subject, an equivalent qualification or the knowledge of science required to obtain this level of qualification. Training providers cannot waive this requirement.

If you do not possess or expect to obtain suitable formal qualifications in English, mathematics and, if applicable, science, the training provider may offer you an equivalence test to assess whether or not you have attained the required standard in these subjects.

Applicants should note that satisfying the minimum academic requirements for entry to postgraduate teacher training does not guarantee that a place will be offered. It will be necessary for you to attend an interview before the offer of a place can be made. In recent years there has been great competition for places, especially on primary training programmes and some secondary training programmes.
